SCLEROTHERAPY-NON-SURGERY VARICOSE TREATMENT
It is the process of destroying the problematic vessels by injecting a drug called a sclerosing substance into the vessel, which chemically destroys the vessel wall and provides it to close. The drug is given in the form of liquid or foam, depending on the doctor's preference and the type of varicose vein, with the help of a thin needle. It is also called “foam sclerotherapy” if the foam form is used. After the drug is given to the vein, it first causes the vein to be blocked, then the vein to shrink and disappear over time. This period varies from individual to individual and sometimes it may take several months for the vein to disappear completely.
Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of Radiology Specialization that performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using imaging. In our hospital, interventional radiology procedures are performed by a team of radiologist doctor, radiology technician and nurse, accompanied by imaging methods such as ultrasonography, computed tomography, fluoroscopy.
The most prominent feature in interventional radiology treatments is to enter the body with an incision of approximately 1 cm and perform diagnosis and treatment procedures. In this way, patients in many areas have the opportunity to be diagnosed and treated without risking general anesthesia and surgery. Since the procedure is not an operation, general anesthesia is not applied to the patient in these treatments, there is no incision on the skin, and the hospital stay is usually quite short. Because of these features, interventional radiology is also described as 21st century surgery.
